I stood from your living room entrance and watched you open all of the Los Angeles-themed gifts I’d foraged with my unemployment to make sure our second Christmas together was one we’d never forget.
Too bad it was 10 days after you went through my text messages and found a thread of exchanged nudes with someone who wasn’t you. We weren’t even in a relationship, is what you told me when I questioned a similar boundary that you’d crossed sooner.
The tears streaming down your face let me know you were lying to yourself even more than you were avoiding commitment. I’ll definitely never forget that Christmas.
