I was 24 and head over heels in love with my best friend. So we took the leap of faith from two friends hanging out to making out to hooking up to calling him my boyfriend. I traveled a lot for work, and he insisted we buy a house. The idea was so romantic. He bought a home without me ever seeing it. We danced around the kitchen and I convinced myself I loved it.
Right before his parents were about to show up to see our new home and my new role as his partner, he looked me in the eyes and said: βThey land in eight hours and I need you gone.β
I drove 14 hours home and 10 years later he still calls when he's had one too many and professes his love for me. I am always reminded, Ohio isn't for lovers, with each ring.
